James Lancel McElhinney is a Candidate for Certification member of the Appraisers Association of America. He competed the Appraisers Association of America CASP (Comprehensive Appraisal Studies Program) and USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) certification in 2017, completing USPAP refresher courses in 2019, 2021, and 2023. McElhinney is a member of the Association of Print Scholars, the Fine Press Book Association, The Armor and Arms Club of New York, the Company of Military Historians, The Pennsylvania Antique Gun Collectors Association, Contemporary Longrifle Association and the Japanese Sword Society of the United States. McElhinney is a published author of books and articles on fine art and historic weaponry.  He received his undergraduate training at Temple University and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Yale. As a professional exhibiting  fine arts practitioner, McElhinney is familiar with historic and contemporary materials and practices related to painting, drawing, and printmaking, and is knowledgable about matters related to art conservation. He possesses work experience and numerous contacts within the art market, including galleries and auctions; and with collectors, museums, and archives.
