WRITING & PUBLICITY

James Lancel McElhinney is the author of six books. His essays and articles have been published in trade periodicals and peer-reviewed journals. McElhinney has recently migrated his website blog onto a Substack—a subscription-based online platform for writers. He has written book reviews, catalogue essays, and promotional copy for events, exhibitions, and artist-estate projects. McElhinney has conducted more than a hundred interviews and oral history projects for such organizations as the Columbia University Center for Oral History, Jewish Historical Society of South Carolina, Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia, Newington Cropsey Foundation Cultural Studies Center, Smithsonian Archives of American Art, Vermont Studio Center, VoCA—Voices in Contemporary Art, and other independent projects.

We welcome writing, research, and consulting assignments. We are supported by a professional consortium of independent editors, archivists, appraisers, and administrative assistants. If we cannot take on your assignment, we can refer you to someone who might.

McElhinney has a robust social media presence, with three websites, accounts on Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. He manages ten profiles on Facebook; two of which are devoted to Needlewatcher LLC and its activities. He has a Constant Contact account for mass communication via email blasts. We do not advertise our services as publicists, but we can help brainstorm campaigns, and help to carry them out.
